For more then 25 years, Chabad has provided an array of programs, services, advice, and networking for the Jewish community of West Michigan.
The Chabad movement reached Michigan in 1929 when the previous Rebbe visited Detroit during his trip to the States. And almost immediately established a presence. In the year 1977, the need for a Chabad in West Michigan became evident. Rabbi Yosef Weingarten and his wife, Sarah, were appointed by Chabad of Michigan with the blessing from the Rebbe to establish Chabad in Grand Rapids. In just a few years, Chabad introduced many innovative and exciting programs in West Michigan Programs such as Educational work shops,Preschool, Hebrew Academy,Day Camp,Shabbat Services, Friday night dinners and more. Chabad also arranged for a one of a kind Menorah-lighting ceremony on the Calder plaza.
A Place for all Jews
The Chabad House is founded on the principle that, while Jews embrace many levels of observance in their personal lives, there should be a place for all Jews - no labels, no affiliations - to develop a sense of community, to enhance the experience of being Jewish, to learn and have fun.
The Chabad House is just that place. By focusing on the individual's relationship to Judaism, The Chabad House appeals to all segments of the Jewish community. By offering a wide range of activities for adults, children and the whole family, The Chabad House follows many paths to enrich Jewish life in our community. And by bringing many different ideas together, The Chabad House can help you find The Jewish Community in your heart.
