I scored 9/10. The only one I got wrong was the one about inheriting the land. I find that odd, though, because if Torah law already says that it goes to the daughters, then what were the daughters of Zelafchad objecting to? Reply

in response to Raymond :

The law hadn't been given yet. Since they asked, Moses consulted God, and He agreed with their argument. Reply

in response to Raymond :

this law was added after the daughters of Zalafchad complained Reply

Dear Rabbi,

I scored 10/10 on this wonderful quiz. My new method of studying the Torah readings is working for me. No written notes, just read, take a break, think about what I read, and answer a question(s) related to the passage read. I repeat the same method to the end. So far, I am a high scorer and recall of facts in the scriptures has improved too.

Peace,
Deborah Reply

I like this site, but I am very frutrated in your set-up which has a convoluted way of getting to features. For instance, I can’t seem to access the quiz. When I finally followed your “two step” process to go to something or other & “family parshah”, it didn’t take me there. I scroll down, past a large blank area, which takes me back to a previous page. My husband always has to “fiddle around” and manages to randomly locate it. We even had trouble locating the weekly parshah, at the beginning. Please fix this so that it is user-friendly! It looks organized, but we are not ‘getting to’ features listed, by direct one click. I would enjoy this site much more if it wasn’t so convoluted. Thank you. Elaine Contard Reply

Hi Elaine,

I'm so sorry you have a hard time navigating our site. It's a challenge for us to keep our many thousands of pages organized and accessible. We do our best, but concede that things certainly can be better.

If there is ever something you cannot find, please reach out to us and we'll do our best to help. Reply

Excellent idea to have a quiz.

A quiz is very helpful to reinforce our study. Reply

Steve Kentuck July 12, 2020
in response to Jenifer Nech:

These quizzes are fantastic.
I've been doing them for years.
I think maybe once I received a 10, but I'm usually in the 8 or 9 range.

Technical questions:
1) I didn't notice it in Friday's web site, but then I got this emai, so all is good Was I missing it somehow?
2) I can get it only if I go to the web site with my Samsung phone.
I just checked it again: still not there: thank you for the email.
When I access it via the web using an Ipad, the quiz never shows up:
so I read it on the Ipad, then switch to the phone to take the quiz.
If I access it via my Mac, the quiz shows up.
Is there something in the coding that it only shows on certain device types/resolutions?

Religious questions:
Why is Pinchas referred to as Pinchas in Parshah Pinchas,
but referred to as Phinehas in the Parshah prior to that (Balak).
It's definitely the same person, and there's no mention of his name being changed for the heroic action he took.
Every year I've read this I wonder! Reply

Daniel Bachrach July 6, 2023
in response to Steve:

Phineas is just the translation of the Hebrew Pinchas. Reply
